Hey,
I just got this 8inch rearend for my turbo pinto swap and I was wondering if any of you knew what kind of car it came out of? Bill, I couldn't figure out how to send you the pics so I'm just posting them here - Amin

My guess is an early mustang comet or farelane about 64-65.
BUT that is PURLY a guess.

It is 66 and older for sure.
What is the lug pattern? Ford had those in 4x4.25 and 4x4.5. You might be able to switch the shafts, but you need to check the drum to drum distance first for lenghts, and there are different retainers too.
Yours has the tapered tubes, but check to see if the tube has the same diameter at the u-bolts. My Mav. and Stang rears did not, and I had to slot the holes in the plates.
The perches WILL need to be re-worked as they are too narrow, have smaller holes, and do not have the same on-center distance. You CAN just re-drill the pin hole in the correct location and eliminate the rubber block (this will lift the rear of the car), or you can do what I did and put the big hole in it. The outside edges (on the drum sides) SHOULD be the same distance apart as a Pinto rear, making things a bit easier.

I measured it end to end and its about 54" long....and it has the 5-lug bolt pattern - Amin
Definatlly back in the 60s! Grew up in a junk-yard. Filler hole in housing dead give-away. 70's rears have the filler hole in the chunk. When I was racing mini-stock we made the mistake of putting a set of 4.62's in an old style chunk and when I got it in the car guess what............NO HOLE TO PUT THE LUBE IN! Since I knew how much went in it and was in a hurry I cheated and jacked up the left side as high as it could go and jerked out the left axel and dumped it in! Never did THAT again! :lol:
