I have a 1973 Ford Pinto Wagon with a worn out 2.0 with bad compression with an automatic transmission. I just bought another 1973 Ford Pinto Wagon with a strong 2.0 and a manual transmission and I would like to swap this drivetrain into my first wagon. What all do I need to know? Is there any fabrication? Can I do this in my garage? Thanks for your help.

Luke;
I just put a 2.0 and manual trans from a 73 wagon into my 72 2.0 auto.
It all swaps out perfect the clutch and brake pedals and cable go onto the automatic car, my fender well even had the screw hole for the clutch cable hold down. the manual shifter comes out in the same spot as the auto shifter. the only problem you might have is if one has power brakes and the other has manual brakes. the pin for the master cylinder rod is offset and your brake pedal will be too high or low depending. you will need to use the drive shaft from the trans you are using.
I did the whole swap in in my driveway in about 3 hours
good luck
Joe
72/73 Power brakes??? ::)
Quote72/73 Power brakes
Sorry wasn't thinking of years Just know they are different
Both cars lack power brakes, so I guess I should be fine. Thank you so much for the help!
