Title: sunpro minitach
Post by: dholvrsn on July 19, 2006, 09:37:25 AM
Picked up an used SunPro MiniTach for Wee Beastie, my "Pinteaux", with no documentation. So where does the green wire go and where does the white wire go?

Does it only have these two wires?  ???

On current Sunpro mini tach II's, the green wire goes to the negative side of the coil, and the white hooks up to your gauge light circuit. They also have a red hot lead and a black ground.

See a list of their manuals here - http://www.sunpro.com/user_manuals.php

If it only has the two wires, I would guess one is ground, one goes to the negative side of your coil. Which is which, I don't know.

I have the same tach  on my pinto. i ran both the the white and the red wires to a spot that is hot when the key is on.The green is the signal wire, it goes to the negative side of the coil and the black wire goes to a ground. Be sure and set the switch on the back to the 4 cylinder setting, unless your pinto has a V6 then it needs to be set on the 6 cylinder setting.

I pretty much figured it out just about a few hours after I posted here. Kind of lost a half hour fighting a bad ground and getting the selecter set just right. That thing's fussy but has a week detent.

PS: I did quantify the subjective "a little buzzy" into being 2600 RPM at 60 MPH. Later, when I couldn't sleep, I did the math to figure out that meant 3.08 rear gears.

I believe my earlier Pinto had 2.73 gears because it turned 2400 RPM at 60 MPH.

wow. I turn close to 3 grand at around 60. not sure if it's the speedo being off or not. maybe a low gear in the rear. it does have an 8 inch.
