Title: Timing on 1977 2.3

got the new distributor in now I want to check the timing...

book says "refer to lable inside engine compartment" for the ignition timing initial advance....

Car has been repainted and of course.... NO LABLE!!!! :wow:

anyone have any ideas where I should put the mark?

 :wow: I found some info that indicates that the advance should be around 20 so I went ahead and checked the timing.

I marked the pointer and the 20 and...... I don't see the mark when I check the timing.

so I tried the light on all areas I could see from above and still no mark.

then I crawled under the car and.... there is the mark.... appox 180 degrees off  >:(

now get this... the car runs and drives... has hesitation if I punch it but if I drive nice it goes OK. Starts right up and idles ok w/very slight miss.

I called a friend and he thinks.... that timing belt is off by a tooth or two???

What do you all think??? help please??? advice???
