Title: 80 2.3 pinto turbo
Post by: SVOwagon on January 01, 2004, 10:50:44 PM
I've never seen an 80 with a "stock" 2.3 turbo. Is this thing really stock? I know that you could get a Pangera with  2.0 carbed turbo, but I've never seen a 2.3 carbed turbo on a Pinto. I know that they came on early fox mustangs. By the way..does anyone know if Fairmonts came with stock carbed turbos?

by stock they meant it is a stock 2.3 turbo motor but not from a Pinto, the fairmonts had a 2.3 turbo motor in '79 that was a draw thru (carb) they are rare (i did the numbers and they were low for both fairmont and zepher)

In 1979 The Capri Turbo RS had a draw thru set up like that also. I DO think the ad is MISLEADING as it states that it is a rare ( Factory) car. Some one needs to tell the guy that its NOT a factory turbo car.

i emailed him and told him of his mistake and perhaps he should correct that in his auction.....we'll see what happens!

I looked at the ad too, looks like the intake/exhaust are reversed, maybe they're just laid in wrong. but if the turbo's mounted on the driver's side the way it looks i have no idea what kind of motor that is.

though i'm thinking plumbing the turbo to the intake side would have advantages (short pressurized run to the intake) but losing the immediate backpressure to the inlet would undo all that good. It's my understanding that turbos are mounted on the manifold for response.

The Turbo on that application was, indeed, on the intake side. I was able to make my Capri really move by doing a few mods to it but leaving the turbo and crossover stock. I could get my car to move sideways shifting into 3rd gear and suprised many a Gt mustang.

Do you have pics of that car? And how was the motor in the German Capri? Was it a 6Cyl 2.6?

The 1979 Turbo Rs Capri was on the same body as the Mustangs of that year ( the Fox Body cars). They shared nothing with the earlier Capri's. The motor was a 2.3 drawthru turbo motor. I have pics of the car but I will need to scan them ( I'll do that soon). My car was one of the nicest 79's around. I fitted it with a rear spoiler from a 80 mustang GT and the front air dam from a 80 mustang gt ( looked great).

I bet it was nice Turbopinto, i had an 82 Capri RS with an 85 5.0 4bbl roller motor. it was VERY quick. I put the 79 pace car spoiler on both ends. It needed paint, but it loked good in black primer  :D
