Title: Anyone running side-draft webers?
Post by: ahawes on July 10, 2006, 05:21:45 PM
I am looking into parts and such for rebuilding/hopping up the 2.0 in my 71. I see the side draft weber's on cars from time to time and have always thought that they look soooo mean ! If the engine is going to be more or less stock with some ignition upgrades and exhaust upgrades, would these things be too much carb? I know weber's are very tuneable, just not sure if two side drafts are too much for the little 2.0. Anyone have any experience or feedback pertaining to these carbs? Is there some sort of air cleaner set up available for them or do you have to run with the velocity stacks or come up with something crafty? Thanks for any help you can give

Hello Adam,
As long as you run small dcoe 40 or smaller you will be OK.
My sugestion is for you to run a modified 5200 first and get all the bugs worked out and then maybe go to the side drafts.
If you can get the engine to run perfect then you will not blame this or that.
then install the side draft set-up. if the engine does not run well then you only have 1 suspect.

The roundy round guys like the Holley 350cfm or 500cfm 2barrel carb but I have not tried them.
I have 1 dcoe 45 on my Turbo Pinto 2.0 and it works good.
Very tune-able yes, but like most things you have to mess with them untill you become an expert to get the tuning right.
My best tuning tool is a numbered drill set. ;D

Keep us posted.
