I'm going to replace the timing belt and both u-joints on my '79 wagon. Any tips on doing this right?
All I can recommend is just take your time & have a good manual handy. If you follow the manual & pace yourself you should be ok.
If you are going to do the timing belt you may as well change your water pump while you are there.
Timing belts on the ford 4s are very straight forward and simple, follow the directions carfully and you'll be allright. The ujoints are going to require a vise a pair of needle nose pliers,a socket and hammer to drive out the joints.A word of caution, when reassembling make sure you clean the keeper grove good and tap the keeper into the groove with a screw driver. You don't want one of these coming out,TRUST ME.
