Title: Bonnevill Salt Flats speed record PINTOS
Post by: pintoperformance on December 25, 2003, 09:40:55 PM
Anyone know of any Pintos that ran at the Salt Flats Past or Present--if so any pictures of those cars?

Is there anyone out there that has been to the Salt Flats for record runs--and do you think a Pinto setup would work there and what type??

Hey, Mike:

Funny you should ask. I just joined this site, but that's exactly what I'm doing--building an '80 Pinto wagon for the salt. You can run anything you want at Bonneville--there are classes for just about every vehicle out there. I'm planning to run the Pinto in D/CGALT, which translated means a Classic Unblown Gas Altered running a 260 to 305 c.i. engine (that's the "D" part of the code). You can also run at Maxton, North Carolina, or El Mirage in California.

The first thing you need to do is to get an SCTA (Southern California Timing Association) rulebook and read it thoroughly--then read it again. They're real sticklers for the rules, especially safety stuff, which is good (their roll cage requirements are stricter than then NHRA's, for example). You can get the rulebook at www.scta-bni.org (the '04 version is coming out this month, I think). You should also visit www.landracing.com, which is another very helpful site.

Good luck, and let me know how it goes....
