Title: Wheel Lug Pattern?
Post by: 72Wagon on June 22, 2006, 08:00:54 PM
What 5 lug wheel pattern and stud size when converting from 4 x 4 1/4?  Thinking of converting to 5 for better wheel selection.

5 on 4.5 is the common ford passenger car pattern.
Just find a 8" rear axel from a 1972 Maverick.
You can use the 5 lug rotors from Heidts Street Rod with a little machining and grinding.
Easy if you have a machine shop that will do what you ask them to...

Thanks, do they use the same stud size as the 4 lug?

Yes.

Any year Maverick will do for a donor, they all have the same axle assy., but the gears might be different from car to car. The Mav. rear assy. is .5" NARROWER than a Pinto one. These axle assy.s are not a direct bolt in in the later Pintos, and will take a little cutting of the perches, but no welding needed for the install. I have never worked on pre 74 Pintos, so I have no further info for you.
