Title: I ordered sub-frame connectors from Racer Walsh...
Post by: Jinxter on June 06, 2006, 06:24:28 PM
Yep, I went to the website and placed my order.  Got a confirmation e-mail and all.  Then I got the follow-up mail that the connectors are not available any more!  Dang!!!

I replied to them concerning drawings, old suppliers, basically any information they could give me or refer me to.  Hopefully I'll hear something positive soon, maybe another supplier...???

I know at least one other has asked the question recently, so I'll update as soon as (IF) I get anything.

Have you tried Summit Racing yet?? They list some chassis parts and roll cages for Pintos in the racing parts sections and you may find a supplier sourcing them with the parts you are needing. And the Mustang II is so close to the Pinto in chassis design that with some minor modifications you may be able to use the subframe kit from a Mustang II for your project.

Good luck!! Let me know what you find out. I have been working on some for my Pinchero projects and might be able to find a runabout to measure from to fab up some for you if you cannot find them. I make all my own mounts, roll cages, grille guards, tire carriers, and such.. Been doing fab work for many years, had to slow down a bit since I became disabled.

the only sub frame connectors I've heard about that Anybody still carries is the ones from Competition engineerring.
However they are only designed to mount to the 2x3 frame rails that they also sell.
I had to fab up mine from 1.5 x 3 rectangular steel. I overlapped the front "sub frame" by 12" or so and then cut a couple of windows through the floor pans to weld to. I ended at the front leaf spring mount. Then I did a 90 deg and  ran up a 1/8 plate to the side of the mount.
Took me a couple of weekends all day each to do it
Tools:
sawsall
4" grinder with lots of cutoff wheels and grinding/flap sanding wheels.
tape measure
sharpie
Lincoln MIG wire feed with innershield.( splatter splatter )
PACIENCE ;) Measure 3 times cut once. ( yea right  ::) )

I cut the opening in the floor a 1/2" small then I bent the metal down to make a flange. I welded both the top and the bottom of the pans to the tubing
I only had less than 1" of intrusion into the rear floor pan.
Good luck!

Thanx to both of you.  I'll do some more hunting around for a bit, as I think the push for projects is now on getting the Aerostar running again....

Hopefully I can get back on track, as I have to start replenishing the kitty for the 289 stroker parts!!
