Any of you guys out there have any experience with the distributorless 2.5's? I picked up a 2.5, dual spark plug, distributerless engine from a 2000 Ranger pickup and would like to drop it in my 74 runabout. I have the computer and all sensors. Does the computer module take 12 volts or is there some sort of transformer to lower the voltage? I will have to swap out the oil pan as the Ranger motor has a rear sump. Any answers or ideas would be helpful.
Joe
The 2.5 ranger is the same 12 volt system as any car, however, make sure you have "all" the sensors that went with the donor car and a good alternator and battery.
Check out the FAQ section about EFI swaps.

I know the car is a 12 volt system. My concern is that generally computers run on lower voltage than regular automotive electrical systems. I have the engine/computer harness only. I'll have to get the harness that plugs into the block and see what I can find out.

If you provide the computer with a good 12 volt plus ( read 13-14 volts) the computer will do all the reconfiguring it needs to lower the voltage to the injectors etc.
The computer needs 12 volts, it's the sensors that are low voltage which is the reason you need multiple grounds to insure an accurate reading.
Thanks for your input. I think will have to find the other wiring harness from the electrical system to the engine. I discovered that in order to use this engine I will HAVE TO configure the computer as it has no distributer hole in the block....can't run regular ignition. This engine is also a lot taller so a hood scoop will be necessary too.
