old horse, new rules. I am currently in search of ground effects to fit my 78 Pinto Run About. It's a great lil car A/C, full rear glass, 4spd ( prob go to 5spd when engine gets built). staying w/ 2.3 want to show these kids how to build an old school tuner. Any help or suggestions on this problem would be greatly appreciated. I took the car down a year ago now I am dying to get it together again
If you have the motor apart you might want to think about a turbo.............. ;D
I have been considering the turbo. I also want to keep my A/C. I live in the South we don't have winter here, not sure how that will work. also not that familiar with doing the turbo mod. I know you have to drop comp. ratio, new cam, all that
I've seen late 80's Mustang GT GFX cut down for a Pinto, you could check out other cars in the Pinto's class, check the distance from wheel opening to opening. if it's longer you can always cut it down. Personally I'd avoid using anything that's shorter, as adding length is tricky AND expensive
I was thinking maybe Mustang II but I don't know if it would bolt up to the Pinto's front fenders. I'm just trying to find any piece that will go under the bumper and cover the lower core support, I really wanted an air dam but it's not like these lil horses get much attention from aftermarket parts builders
I did what Crazyhorse said. I compared different cars about the same size as the Pinto. I came up with the front air dam from a Honda :o Civic. It was actually the bumper cover. I cut it almost in half. I was going to use a rear bumper cover from a Dodge Daytona as a roll pan. Unfortunately I rolled my wagon. ::)
Anyway heres a thread that shows the dam pretty good.

The CobraII airdam should be pretty close. It may require a little trimming, or possibly narrowing(though i doubt it would need that) On a 79-80 i'd look into airdams from the mustang-capri from those years. they're about 6 inches too deep but they have that much you can trim off. i doubt you could use the 'glass extensions for the fenders though that'd put the dam in front of the bumper. Here's my plan for using King Cobra GFX http://www.fordpinto.com/yabbse/attachments/final_concept.jpg
Killer concept, we're thinking on the same lines. I think ground FX on my lil 78 would be wicked trick
try front air dam from Ford Aerostar van--also try side ground effects from dodge Daytona--I have installed on my 78 Pinto Panel.
Had to do a little trim here and there and had to make mounting tabs but came out real good. Painted the side ground effects a satin black--the body of the Panel Wagon is Viper Red.. Will post pics as soon as I finish up rest of car.

Streethorse,
I am building a 2.3 and right now I have a Wolfverine bracket cam--running a 388cfm Ford 2bbl carb, with a Racer Walsh 2" intake spacer on my intake manifold. Had to make my own throttle mounts. ALso using a Hedman header. The engine has been balanced and blueprinted..
engine has really good throttle response..
Have installed a 8.7 rear end out of a Ford Granada (1977).
New Cragar Wheesl 14" front and 15" rear..
Will be installing a C4 transmission soon..

Pretty trick looking wagon. I'll definitely look into the Aerostar dam, I'm almost ready to spray the paint but I really want to get this dam installed before I do that
