after installing headers and a duel plane intake stock 2 barrel carb for now. i seemed to lose alot of low end power. right now its running off an open header but i will be putting on a new exhaust system with a turbo muffler on Monday. I'm not sure if that will help. what else could cause my problem? i might of put a vacuum line line in wrong but I'm not sure. any ideas guys?
thanks
If i get it figured out i will be cruising in my pinto by Tuesday or Wednesday
Low back pressure will give you less bottom end power (to a point).
It should get better with the full exhaust on it.
You might thinik about an adjustable cam gear; You can advance the cam slightly, and it will give you some more low end power, but at the cost of upper end power.

alright thanks i hope the :police: don't hear my car on the way to the muffler shop way to loud ;D maybe i should just tow it
i just did that yesterday. i put some headers and drove it into town. they didn't catch me. my trick to make it quieter and not backfire was to give it just a little bit of gas so it doesn't back fire. it was interesting driving it like that. but now i have my exhaust and don't have to worry any more.
yes but I'm also afraid of ruining something i don't even have the collector pipe on its just a down pipe and if i ruin something ill with i had put it on the hook
towing it would be safer because you can't get a ticket. and you couldn't possibly ruin it. ;D
I say LET-R-RIP, Ive done that a bunch of times and its great fun.......... ;D ;D :amazed: :amazed: :amazed:

heh, I've done that as well! Luckily passed the cop while coasting down a hill towards town, not heading up the hill to the muffler shop.
Did I understand you correctly, that you added a dual plane intake manifold, and a stock 2 barrel carb?
If so, and the intake manifold you now have on is a higher rise than the stock manifold, that may the source of some of your low end power loss, as high rise manifolds (even some so-called dual plane ones) are notorious for doing exactly that on some engines. The trade off is that a higher rise manifold is typically better for high hp/ high rpm.
His dual-plane has no high rise to it. Putting on exhaust will help it out considerably,I would not sweat it. What do you have the ignition timing set at???
stock why? should i advance it i want is to be very streetable it will be a daily driver
Don't rely on the stock pointer to be accurate. You need to set it to where it ALMOST pings when you are under heavy acceleration, at around 2500-3500 rpms. I run my streeter with no vacuum advance also. Just leave your dist. clamp down bolt SLIGHTLY loose, drive the car, and stop and advance it, (counter-clockwise), until it just starts to ping under heavy load, then slowly back it off until it stops. It will take several attempts to get it right, but this is how to make it run it's best, without sacrificing mileage, or engine damage. I have done this for years with the best of success. Do this adjustment with the vaccuum advance hose off and plugged. Mine runs around 15 degrees BTDC with an auto and high rear gears, and no vac. advance. It may sound wrong, but this is your best bet for the engine to run at it's best. When you get it running where it is at it's best, check it with a timing light, and you'll know where to keep it set at in the future. Jim
