I was looking for a differant engine for the wagon when i came acrossed an ad in the S.F. bayarea craigslist.Just punch in pinto in the parts section. And you will see the parts.I talked to this guy for about an hour about all the parts. Then swapped racing stories.I was going to buy everything listed but after talking to the little hefer,And showing her the website about joe morgans pinto she said "It sounds to fast and it scares me" Of course i gave the ???HUH! look.Took a deep breath and started looking again.
Peace Mike
Hey, I looked at that. I think its a good deal and some one on this list should snap it all up.
Talked to the man that has the parts today. His name is Barry and is very well informed on turbos and on cars in general.I was telling him about my wagon and my never ending search for a new or differant engine. When he mentioned that he has a 76 totally unmolested wagon with 71,000 miles on and that he would sell me the whole wagon delivered for $2000 dollars less than i was going to sink into mine.
It was kinda a tough call because i've already spent $2000 on my 78 along with 100's of hours in body work paint etc.etc.I still needed a engine, carb ,all the smog stuff ,suspension work and tires So i did the the math and it adds up to another pinto in the family ;D.
I'm going to look into the parts that interchange strip off the parts i might need. And sell or toss every thing else.My 78 is really in great shape with the exeception of the items previously mentioned.Ill post any thing i dont use on the for sell
forum soon. BTW Barry sure seems like a straight shooter.
Thats all for now SEE YA Mike
P.S The car has the original baby blue paint which happens to the wife favorite color
Excellent post. Sure glad the car is going to a great home.
Barry Just dropped off a rust free 72 Trunk Model to me in Blue! Also All the stuff in the craigs list ad and MORE. WOW. He even delivered it 700 miles to my house for gas!
Boxes and boxes of stuff. Now the $20,000 cars are in the driveway and my pinto is in the garage:)
I will be selling a lot of stuff when I figure what I want to keep for my Pinto. He even threw in a AC system. Mounts..compressor..condenser..Evap assembly ect. I keeping the AC as I live in Arizona.
It Christmas in Az. Photos soon! Dave
Wow Dave thats kinda freaky that you bought the stuff from Barry.I'm really glad that you picked up all those goodies.Freaky because we wrote about Sebastopol in a later post.Small world ,I hoping that one of my pinto bros would score!
Hey dave ,
I just read your profile.Could it be that i hooked you up with your first pinto
And if i did are you going to change your screen name?
This is the 3rd Pinto I have had since Dec 2005. Ist one I sold same day. Not up to what I wanted...2nd one just went to a member here..it had a rusty trunk and seeing that I want to do a real clean car...outside...under and engine compartment..I was just going to keep buying them until I found the one...This last one is the one. This week I am photoing and tagging brake lines and wiring and the firewall before I strip it to have engine compartment painted and all non used holes filled.. One step at a time.
I have learned from others not to try to do the whole car at once...It can become overwhelming and then the whole project gets sold at a big loss. After engine compartment...Then Front end..powder coating everything and reassembling it. This is a blast. With the parts I sold I am still WAY under $1000 IN THE whole thing. I still do not know what combination of head exhaust and intake I will use..I have several choices still in the group of stuff I have.
I should change the name.
Bye for now,,Dave.
