I have a 74 squire and I thought I had a complete low mileage original car. After trying to hunt down a problem with my heater not working I finally managed to find out I am missing a vacuum reservoir from under the hood for the system to work properly. The Ford manual just shows it as a round drawing. One of the members that sells parts sold me a vacuum reservoir from a 74 that does not look anything like anything shown in the manual but I believe it to be right. He was even nice enough to verify it on another Pinto. Problem is I have no idea where it goes. Does anyone have a pic of a vacuum reservoir on the drivers side engine area? It will have a lot of vacuum lines coming out of it and is rectangular in shape?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Gaslight:
I don't know about the 74 squire but on my 77 cruise wagon Ford did not put the vacuum reservoir
in the engine area. Instead, Ford put the vacuum reservoir between the passenger side door and
the body. You have to open the passenger side door and look between the crack of the door and
you can see it attached to the body. The only way you can get to it is take the door off. Now that's
some real engineering!!! You might want to see if Ford did the same thing for your 74 squire.

That's something to look at. Thanks I will take a look. So its in the passenger side kick panel? Or on the outside of the car behind the fender?

Hi Jake:
My vacuum reservoir is on the outside of the car. Open your passenger side door and look between the door and
the fender. Mine is attached to the body between the two door hinges.

Thanks. I will take a look at that when I get home.

I took a look and there is nothing there. There does not even look like thee should be something there. Although I did find that my antenna cable rubber grommet was popped out. So I fixed that. So there is an upside.

My 73 Squire has a small reservoir on the drivers side. it looks like a short fat soup can and only has two lines on it one in and one out. it is located about 3 inches rearward of the coil.
hope this helps

It does. That is the way my factory Ford manual shows it as well. I belive that is the way my car was. I think I need to get a hold of one of those cans. I have not been able to find a decent vacuum diagram for that car anywhere. The Ford manual I have really does not have anything. In any of the 5 volumes. I am try to get my hands on a Clymer right now to see if it has anything.
