Title: what is this peice

im very confused on what the part below the intake manifold is it conects to the block with a peice that looks like a lawn mower muffler
i have no clue what it is any help would by great
79 runabout 2.3 ???

PCV. Positive Crankcase Ventilation.

can i take it off and cap off the hole with no adverse affects?

YES as long as you don't mind blown front and rear main seals. ;D

NO REALLY do not plug the PCV.
It lets the engine crankcase breath.

Just curious? Why would you want to plug it anyway?

No, you need to have a crankcase vent or you will be blowing the dip stick out.

The other thing that looks like what you are descibing is the the inlet for the "smog pump."
What is the exact size of this mystery part?
A pic would help.
