My first car was a 1973 Pinto Sedan. It was a brown-on-brown automatic. I bought it in March 1979, at the height of the infamous "Recall Campaign 293". Nobody wanted them at the time, and I picked up my 6-year old, 39000-miles set of wheels for $400.
Being a car guy since I was a little boy, there has since been a special place in my heart for that first car and I decided to try to find another one. All my cars have always been completely stock, and Pinto number 2 would be no exception. In my quest for another brown-on-brown 1973, I found this 4-speed lime yellow 1974 sedan with an avocado interior. It is an unrestored original with only 10000 documented miles. The first owner had it for 14 years and only put 2400 miles on it. Somehow, "Recall Campaign 293" was never done on the vehicle.
This could be 1976 and you could be looking at a 2-year-old car. It is that nice. The only thing that would tip you off that you are not "Back to the Future" is the avocado steering wheel. Big chunks are breaking off of it. I am actively searching for a replacement.
Before I purchased the Pinto, I was able to secure two N.O.S. recall kits for the fuel tank recall from Green Sales in Cincinnati; one to put on the car, and the other one to show. As soon as I got home with it, my local Ford dealer installed the kit for me.
I am now enjoying my little yellow time machine and looking forward to many car shows this summer.
NICE!

73pintogeek,
The car spent most of its years in Kentucky and Michigan. I bought it from a collector in Ohio. As to your second question, let's just say I overpaid, but my experience with previous vintage cars tell me that this is way cheaper in the long run. There is nothing better than an unrestored original.

Nice piece!! Have fun with her!!
Hello Pierre,
Nice find!
Yes nothing better that an original!!!!
Will you be coming to Carlisle in june?
I sure would like to see your Pinto in person.
From Pintony
As the Croc Hunter Steve Irwin would say..." what a little beauty!!"
Pintony,
No, I am not planning to go to Carlisle. I am planning to keep this car until my grandkids take my license away from me. That is hopefully not for another 40 years...
Pierre
NICE!

That's really cool you found what you were after, I remember some giving you a ribbing about finding a mint condition pinto.
Looks like you proved them wrong.
:peace:
