Title: 302 motor plate in a 71 Pinto?!
Post by: pintopierce on April 19, 2006, 10:33:19 AM
I am gonna attempt to use a motor plate for my 302 in my 71.  Amybody else using a plate in a pinto?
I figure it will give some firmness to the frame and prevent some flexing.

Also, I am looking at moving the motor back far as possible and using a rear sump oil pan. I know i will have to cut the firewall extensively but i figure the handling will be well worth it plus the extra room for my hx35w turbo in the front of the engine bay... Any body else setting the engine that far back?  Just wondering if there were any complexities involved?

I am gonna have to move my seats back about 3 inches and i will have to shorten my driveshaft.

The rear sump is a no go.  It is just to far back for sake of ease.

I will use the front sump butt as far back as possible with the steeering rack dropped about 2 inches.  The back of the motor sits about 4 inches past the fire wall ( I cut a hole in it).  The number 1 cylinder is directly over the front axle line. This should help in balance and handling i hope...

I will have to cut a couple of slits in the tunnel to enlarge it and make it fit my 157 bell in my C4.

I really didn't want to cut the thin sheet metal firewall becasue it would be hard to weld but I figure it is gonna be worth it in the end...

The right cylinder head is really close to the master cylinder and the right exaust manifold (off a 94 f-150) is extremely close when turned toward the front... for my turbo app.

I will post pics of my motor mocked up with spare 302 parts...  lots of front engine bay space left... enough for a large 3 core and intercooler.

Due to the overwelming response to my post and the endless amount of pics I have decided to stray away from the plate idea.

I dont trust 400+ hp hangin on to 4 timing cover bolts....

I will be using some good ole home made angle iron engine mounts with a rubber insulator sndwiched between them...

PLease excuse my sarcasm, I am teacher and we only got 2 days to go till schools out.... just venting a little

I will post pics of my turbo'd 302 71 asap when its installed....
