Title: where to find seats?
Post by: uncleamin on April 11, 2006, 10:40:51 AM
Hey,
I'm looking for some leather replacements for my stock 79' sedan seats. I was wondering what seats you can get at a junk yard that require little to no mods and would look good in a pinto. Somebody told me a celica or supra....if this is true what years? Thanks. - Amin

Amin,

Any 82-86 Toyota Supra seat could be installed pretty easy.  I used a set in my 66 Bronco and there tracks are very easy to modify as well as built low into the seat.  The cloth seats are the best and were actually designed and built by Recaro.  The leather seats were built by Toyota and are not as comfortable.  Niether the cloth or the leather require and electrical hookup and the drivers side has a nice lumbar.  The 86.5 thru 92 Supra seats would look good as well and are comfortable and easily adapted but the non power seats for these cars are very rare.  The power seats are the most common and only the drivers seat is power but bring a forklift because the drivers seat weighs a ton.  The 80's GT Mustangs had seats similiar to the 82-86 Supra and were really comfortable also.

Thanks Jake,
I'll go check into those Supra seats. Right now I'm just exploring my options so if anyone knows of any other choices I have, feel free to contribute. Thanks again. - Amin

You can fit almost anything on the drivers side of a pinto. The problem is when ford put the bubble in the floor for the cat. conv., not to mention that the tunnel is not centered and it leaves little room for the right seatbelt. I tried to install seats from a saturn in my 77, but the pass. side was way too high,  and I made the drivers side to match. They looked great, but I could not sit in them (I am over 6' tall). They might work for someone not as tall as me. I still have the frames for the saturn seats, if anyone wants them $5. plus shipping (the 5 bucks is for boxing them up, I spent about 6 hours making them to this point, and I like to get a better hourly wage then that). They need to be finish welded and detailed, but you can bolt the in seats from a 92-96 saturn into a 75 or later pinto with them.

I`ve heard that Escort seat`s are an easy conversion...I`m going to look into it myself with the price of re-upholstering so high...got a quote of $1000.00 for my front bucket`s...maybe I`m living in the past...but I ain`t payin` the price! :surprised:

Late model escorts work great. All you have to do is bend the front slider mount flat and thats it. I have a nice set going in my 72 pinto & my 61 (PINTO powered) baha bug. HTH. Escorts are in all the wrecking yards.
