Title: Carpet
Post by: turbo toy on April 08, 2006, 08:10:32 AM
I am trying to find carpet for my 80 sedan, but everything I find listed states it's for rear bench seat. Please excuse my ignorance, but I didn't know there was a difference in the seats. My car has a solid piece across the back, but the seat cushions are like buckets with carpet between them. Can someone please enlighten me?Thanks,Curtis

Might just be the way they think of a rear seat.

I installed my new carpet from 1a-auto last night. Fits ok for a non-ford item. If you get one from them. don't cut the holes where they have them "marked", they are not quite correct. My carpet cam with a filler section to go between the rear seats.

The cat is a parts car, and a darned good one. It has donated its right front wheel lip molding, black seatbelts and e-brake cover, I dyed the visors, door panels and door pulls and installed them in the turbo car as well as the black radio panel and (working) am-fm radio. A few parts will be working their way to Connie's pinto also.

My wife asked me what I planned on doing with the cat. I told her I wanted to gut it and get rid of it. She told me not to, as I might get rid of it with a part I might need one day. This is kool, she is telling me not to get rid of a car. It now has a home in my barn with as many mouse issue parts removed. It is also full of mouse killer and moth balls.

There were no holes in the carpet, but they are marked. Like I said, I used the pinto shifter boot and dropped the carpet down over it to hide the base. I like it, but if I need to remove the shifter, I don't know if I want to pull the carpet to get at it.

This might clear up your confusion. Up through the '77 model year (there may be some overlap here because Ford did some pretty goofy things around this time!), there was a solid rear seat. In '78 and later models they were changed to the two separate cushions as you mentioned. They still use the same carpet, however, and another piece was laid over the driveshaft tunnel to finish it off. The front edge of this piece is bound to give it a finished look. You can usually order some extra material and have an upholstery shop put the binding on it.

79 is correct. I have been working on my wifes car, gutting the bobcat, and my turbo car with the rear seat removed, that I forgot the 77 and older have a solid lower seat.

The carpet I got from 1a auto had two of the filler sections with it.
