My future Pinto is either a 1973 or 1974 2 door Runabout Hatchback.I was wondering how hard it was to put a 302 or a 351 in one of these little gems?At the moment,I have a 302,but there might be a chance that I would change my mind and go with a 351.But,I'll probably stick to my guns and go with what I have.
I have several questions on this matter addressed below. If someone could help me out with any of these, your help is very much appreciated.
1) What motor mounts do I need?
2) What do I do for exhaust headers?
3) I'll probably use a C4,but is there a chance that I can use the stock Pinto 4 speed with a SBF?
4) What radiator do I need?
5) Will I have to get a bigger rear differential?
I think that's about it for now.If I think of anything else,I'll post it later :D .Thanks for your help!

for motor mounts, use mustang II 302 motor mounts, Exhaust...hmmm, headers can be pricey for this conversion, but they are available from Hooker, hedman and a few others. Hooker also has a motor mount kit too. You can also use exhaust manifolds from a mustang II V8 if money is tight. The C4 is your best bet as most headers are made to clear them, the stock 4 speed tranny holding up.....not to sure on that but if your going to use a standard tranny why not just get a T5 from a mustang 5 liter? Rad, you can get a mustang II V8 rad (thats what i have) but with my 351w it will overheat if i sit and idle too long. (i use an electric pusher fan and no engine (water pump fan) fan as i have no room. If your car has an 8 inch it will be fine, if its a stock 6 3/4 you WILL destroy it in a short period of time! (especially is you run sticky tires) Good luck to you!
Thanks 78pinto.I heard somewhere that you could use headers for a SBF Mustang II?Will this work? Also, would Block Huggers work?
Thanks again for the help!

yes they are the same, but they will only work for '74 and up Pintos. The '71-'73 Pintos have a smaller engine compartment and do not fit the same. Block hugger, not sure, but you want to make sure all your exhaust stays away from your starter or you'll be changing it on a regular basis! And its NOT fun, trust me (headers off, motor mount off, altanator off)
Starter change in a '74 "stangII V8 entails header off mount off motor, stand off frame AND a 3ft (1M) socket extension
the cussing and kicking are optional LOL
Thanks for advice crazyhorse :D;) 8).
Well 78pinto,it looks like I'm gonna get to run with you.I pulled the casting number off my "302" today and it looks like that I have a 1971-1974 351 Windsor :D:D:D .Man,this was a great deal for $200.Is everything that you listed above what you did to put your 351 in your Pinto? What is the stock rated horsepower and torque from a 351?
One more thing..Is a hood off of a 1972 Pinto the same as a hood off of a 1974?
