Hey guys. New here and just bought a 1973 Pinto Wagon with a 2.0L auto. I will eventually do the 2.3 Turbo/EFI/Intercooler swap and use a 4 speed auto but for now I want to get this thing mobile and restore some of the body and interior/suspension brakes etc and actually drive it. It will eventually be my work commute car to help me flip the bird to SMOG laws and outrageous insurance rates! For now I was wondering tho.......will a dist and say a duraspark out of a later model pinto with a 2.3 bolt in place of the little points dist. in my 2.0L ??? Any help will be/is greatly appreciated. Nice site too.
Oh and I also used the search engine on here but not with much luck....just like on yahoo...
I'm wondering the same thing, only my situation may be reversed. See my dura-spark brains post http://www.fordpinto.com/smf/index.php?topic=4739.0 for more info.
From looking through my manuals, It looks like they should be interchangeable. The engine I have in my car says 2.0 on the valve cover and it has the dura-spark setup on it. The caveat is that it could possibly be a 2.3 with a 2.0 valve cover. I don't know for sure, If mine really is a 2.0 then yes you can do the swap you want. If mine is really a 2.3, then I'm not sure. Like you, I'm new and don't know what interchanges.
p.s. I noticed this is an old thread and you may have found the answer already, In which case you might be able to help me.
No they will not. Nothing really interchanges between these two.
you can make a dura-spark distributor for the 2.0. You'll need a ford 2.8 v6 distributor (duraspark years) and a 2.3 duraspark distributor for parts.
Since the 2.8 and 2.0 were made at the same place (cologne, germany) the oil pump drive and distributor gear are the same. What you do is take the poles (piece that spins with the same number of "teeth" as engine cylinders) out of the distributors and put the 2.3 poles in the 2.8 distributor. then put a 2.3 cap on the 2.8 distributor and install it on the 2.0
The only issues are that you MAY have to have the distributor re-curved, and if you have factory AC on your 2.0, the taller distributor may not fit under the alternator.

somebody already converted my pinto motor to duraspark. I just got dine wiring it. WHen it comes time to wire it heres a great diagram:
http://home.cfl.rr.com/mustangsix/Engine/duraspark.htm
it also tells you how to hook up a msd box if you want to get crazy. ALSO to save money it tells you how to convert a standard chevy ignition module to use in place of that big bulky duraspark2 brain box. cool site. It helped me alot.
