I have a '77 pinto, 2.3L 4cyl. I want to know if its possible to put a C6 transmission to it. If so what do i need and where can i get it. I have the stock C3 transmission, but i want something better. If not a C6, is there anything that I can put to the engine that will be better than the C3. Thanks!!
Hello ccmhockey12,
The C6 tranny has the bell house as part of the case so it will not work.
For referance.... I have a 1973 E300 1ton Ford van and it has a factory C4 tranny.
Many of the 2300cc 1974-75 Pintos have C4 trannys too.

P.S. The C3 is a perfectly good transmission.
The XR4TI Merkur had the C3 tranny. They eventually went out, but a carburated 2.3 will have a hard time hurting a C3.
It is just costly to rebuild.

So will a C4 tranny fit the 2300cc engine too? I also have a '74 pinto, not sure if it has a C3 or C4 transmission on it. I know I'm going to make a lot of pinto lovers mad at me, but I'm planning on wrecking my '77 pinto. I rebuilt my engine and I have a C3 tranny on it, but i read somewhere that they zoop. Is a C4 better than a C3? or will i just be wasting my time swapping trannys? I'm just trying to get the best angine and tranny set possible. Thanks for the help!
your 74 pinto should already have the c4 tranny.
The question is: "what are you tring to do?"
Swapping a good tranny for a good tranny? A N/A 2.3 with a good c3 is not bad, but the c4 is stronger.
A c4 will fit a 2.3 IF you have the correct bell.
C3 has 13 pan bolts, the c4 has 11.
Sounds like a lot of work for a demo car.
