ok im going to pick up a volvo sunday ive read alot of questions about people asking about the 4cyls doing head swaps and such on here so my quesion is.
are the fly wheels the same as a ford both being 4cyl autos?
they said every now and then you have to crank for a while for it to spin the motor over (fly wheel teeth bad) and was wondering if they had the same due to that
Hello Tude,
More likely that the Bendix is going bad on the starter.
Just replace the bendix and keep your original starter.
Re-builders put in the cheepest parts.
Buy Quality when dealing with starters. Changing starters in the Pinto is NO Fun.

Tonys right. I have to pull my motor if I have to change starters.
Really??? What motor you got in there??
Yea, What engine? Even with my turbo car all I have to do is pop off the steering rack and the starter comes out (after it is unbolted).
As far as the Volvo engine, I doubt that any of the parts will be a direct interchange. Some turbo ford people use the DOHC heads, but again, not a direct bolt, but very close.

i got the car gutted it out compleatly exept the carpet, dash, and back window . it runs GREAT!!! i cant belive it at all. well the starter will turn it over fine exept about every 5th time it grinds. its weird i figured the motor would be way diffrent than anything i ever saw and it looks like a ford 2.0 or 2.3 but with a mopar slant 6 angle , even the hole for the dist and fuel pump are in the right areas. the head is at a lean so i dont think ill be able to swap intakes and put my 2bbl on it, and another thing its got what looks like a header but cast (kinda torqued me off when i noticed that now i have to build my own flanges on it )
is the starter any think like a ford starter i have lots of them all fords are inter change able all i have to do is pull the cone off and swap it over to the one i need and if its the same then im in luck :drunk:
It's a turbo motor in a 80 body. I needed to drop the starter to pull the tranny a few weekd ago. Needles to say I pulled the motor half way out too.
I HIGHLY doubt that anything from the Volvo will interchange with a Ford easily. Ford's association with Volvo is a fairly recent thing. that said, I too have heard that the Volvo DOHC head will work on a 2.3. I think it's a pretty involved swap though.
Dreambean, I gotta take the bolts out of the mounts & the driver mount off the motor. I don't like doing it, but I can do it in an afternoon.
