I'm working on a gas hood strut kit for the Pinto and Mustang II. It will eliminate the prop rod completely, as they are ugly and get in the way when working in the engine compartment. The kit will include two gas struts, fasteners, and detailed instructions. The price has yet to be worked out as i'm still developing the kit and changing parts. I would like to know if there is an interest in this before i start assembling kits. Jeff
i would be interested in something like that, i've looked for something like that before but never really found any with instructions or specifically for a pinto
Jeff, yes I would be intrested..
Along the same vain, I would like to install gas struts for the rear hatch on both my 72 runabouts. Since my knowledge is mostly about the 71-73 Pintos, I have not had much exposure to this option offered, I know it was available in 72 but what does it require? Can you take the parts (mounts) off another car (replacing the struts) & install on a later model? Has anyone done this?
Scott, if it was an option on later models, i would think it would retrofit. However, there maybe no mounting locations as they were probably stamped in the year it first became available. But if you get the exact location, you could still mount them. You also have to make sure you get the proper strut (size and pressure) Take a look at one that has the option, take some measurements. I'll keep my eyes open for one as well.
Think its a great idea. Would like to do it to my car.
