I finally got to start on the wagon this past weekend. The interior smelled like wet dog :reek: I gutted every thing except for the drivers seat. I have noticed that I have a small leak on the driverside probably from the aged and cracked windshield gasket. Luckily, there was absolutly no rust in the floor pans. This little car is pretty solid. I had stopped by one of the only wreckers in the area to carry parts for the older cars and Bill (owner) had a stockpile of rearends. I found only one 8" but I didn't have a tape measure to see how wid it was. Of course he had about 3 or 4 9" rearends. I went back today, tape in hand and found that the 8" was to wide for the wagon. I decided to measure the 9" rears and found one that would bolt right in. So now the wagon has a 9" and if I ever get a wild hair you know where, to do a V8 I have the rear to back it up. I am going to have the Diff rebuilt and I will post pics as soon as I start the install. Stay tuned....ROb
Hey Rob,
Have you told anyone yet???
Told them ALL!!! Brother and Roommate are actually happy I got it. ??? Cop next door, not so happy >:( Girlfriend could care less except about the fact I told her I had a meeting for work the day I picked it up and that's why I couldn't spend the day with her. I just told her to build a bridge and get over it ;D...Rob
also try checking the fresh air vent on the drivers side sometime they like to rot thru. found this out the hard way on my 79 bobcat
Osiyo59,
Good looking car. In addision to the pics please add some specs. Like the rearend tag numbers and it's width. I as well will be doing the 9 inch thing down the road.
Thanx, High_Horse
Well, I have located a 1986 T/C bird doner car. The car is complete minus the actual turbo, for a hundred bucks! I am going up on thursday to pick it up. This next weekend is my last weekend before I leave for Australia so I doubt I will get much time to work on it. But, when I get back I am going to begin stripping the bird and send the motor off to be rebuilt. At least that is the plan for now. In the mean time I will be working on getting the cosmetics done. I have already ordered the material for the intererior upolstery. I decided to go with a medim grey color, I think it will look good in the car. Untill next time...
Hey Highhorse, I don't see a tag on the 9" but I did see some numbers on it. I will post them here tomorrow evening when I get back from the Goodguys car show. I can tell you that there is a "64" cast into the drop out center. I am assuming that it s for a 1964 model car. most likely a Falcon, comet or compact fairlane. I will past more info when I have it. Take care...Rob
Hello Rob,
Hope you have a great time in down under..
Be sure to get some 4 door photos. ;D
The headlinner will still be here when you get back. If you still have need?
Later...

Hello Rob,
If your rear axel is a narrow 9"?
It is most likely from a Econoline Van.

Thanks Tony, I do still want the headliner. The 9" appears to have 3.08 gears. I have a new 3.56 9" in my Ranchero, I am going to swap the two. With the Pinto having a 5 speed and the Ranchero an Automatic the gear swap will work out better with the swap. I will try and post from Sydney with some pics ;D.. ...Rob
Well, hello gang! It's been a while since I have posted. I have been spending a lot of time on the car. I have pulled the motor and trans. Repaired the rusted out battery area and primed and ready for paint. should be colored this weekend. front suspension will be back in about two weeks from now, once it's powdercoated. I will post some picks as soon as I get the file sizes reduced...stay tuned!!!
