Will a 4spd trans from a 2.3 Pinto fit in a 2.0 Pinto? ???
If not what needs to be changed to make it fit? ???
I believe the bell and clutch fork are the only differences. Should fit otherwise.
The 2/0 and 2.3 4speed are exactly the same.
All you need is the plastic thing that goes on the clutch cable.

Thanks to Pintony, I thought you would know.
Dowel pins!!!
You WILL need the stepped ones for any 2.0 - 2.3 swaps.

ADDED: I now sell steel stepped dowel pins, PM me for details.
OK, Yes the dowl pins too!

Thanks Bill.
Hey Bill,
Somewhere, (from another post), it was suggested that 1/2" x 3/8", or 5/8" x 1/2" copper to copper sweat bushings worked for this application pretty good.
They are made of bronze roundstock, not copper, like the fitting reducers.
As I had mine made up at my shop I'm not looking to get anymore.
They are available at some of the more well stocked plumbing supply stores.
Might be something to see the next time your in Home Cheapo.

Hello Bill,
I was thinking more along the lines of the bolt threads chewing the spacer up.
Not the strength.
For some unknown reason "CLUTCH" ;D I seem to have to bolt and unbolt my tranny a bunch...
From Pintony
No more than the other holes. Once the tranny is lined up, the bolts go straight in.

What if I use the 2.0 bell housing and the 2.3 trans?
i have a 1.6 2.0 2.3 the bell from the 1.6and 2.0 fit like a glove but the 2.3 dose not . 2.3 is in the mid 80s what gives the years? trans. is a staderd 1972.
Hey kd5fnb,,,
If the bell from your late model does not match up then it is from an automatic tranny.
All the 4 speed tranny bells have the same bolt pattern.
Only the C3 auto has the taller narrower bolts that go into the head.
O...!!!! and the T-5 ;D
From Pintony
All my c-3's bolt to the lower holes.
Bill
let me try again the 1.6 2.0 block fit the stan. bell but the 2.3 block dose not fit .............sorry bout the mix up.
thanks
The 2.0 and the 2.3 have the same bolt PATTERN, but as mentioned, the dowels are slightly different.

Is every body streight now?? :swirl: :swirl: :swirl: :read: :read: :hypno: :hypno:
So if my 2.0 4sp trans goes bad i can bolt a 1982 Capri 2.3 4sp(that i just happen to have lying around) to my 2.0 bell and it will be all good?
The tranny will bolt up IF THE BOLTS GO IN FROM THE SAME SIDE. The older 4spds have the bolt heads inside the bell, the later B-W 4spds have them so you can un-bolt the tranny from outside of the bell. Most likely the 82 has the B-W 4spd and the D9 bell, if so it will not bolt it to the 2.0 as the D9 has the taller patern, and you can't just swap the bells (if you have the D9 bell and you want to sell it please drop me a PM).
Here is the deal: ALL 2.3's have both patterns (tall and short), the 2.0 only has the shorter one. The dowel pins are different from 2.0 to 2.3, but stepped dowels will allow the swap.
Bill
Thanks bill
Both of mine bolt on from the inside so i should be able to swap them if needed.
would you happen to know if the gear ratios would be the same.
the only bell housing i have that i don't need is the 82 2.3 bell that bolts from the inside.

You can do it IF the bell has the has the short bolt pattern to match the 2.0, AND you get the stepped dowels.
