So on my 74 front shocks are easy but has anyone figured out any part numbers for the rear shocks on a wagon?
Jake
I am running KYB shocks in the rear of my 79 wagon. I went down to the local auto parts store and ordered them about 5 years ago. Are you having trouble finding them now?
Well so far I have only looked on the KYB website. I have not actually tried to order them. I guess I can give there tech support a call and see what they say.
Jake
from my parts class experience in college I know that napa auto carries different shocks for all body styles of the ford pinto and mercury bobcat. I'll look into it and post the part numbers later.
krazi
you can order kyb's right over the counter at advanced auto parts. last time i checked you can get regular shocks, kyb's, air shocks. autozone napa or advanced. you can get koni's from speedway or summit. The Kyb's were about 20 bucks a piece at advance.
Fronts yes but not even the Napa here shows rears for a wagon.
JAke
ok missed the wagon part. easy fix. get the shock mounting brackets from a non wagon, replace yours with them and get your shocks.
Thought about that but the shocks would not be valved correctly for the extra weight. Since I road race I am kind of anal about that. I have a shock off the car now and after a couple of measurements I will be calling KYB on Monday trying to match something up.
Jake
try a member named mcrouthamel, he has 2 full sets of koni adjustable, rebuildable race shocks. then you could set your damping and rebounds to what you want. Or get a set of PRO SHOCKS from speedway, they have all the dampening you could ask for, but arent adjustable. But they are pricey at 50 bucks a pop.
50.00 bucks a pop!? I just paid 3300.00 for coilovers for one of my cars. 50.00 bucks sounds great!
Jake
jeesh, didn't realize you were planning on going 300 mph ;). Good luck with the shocks.
Well not with the Pinto. That car I just want a good all around cruiser in the Pro-touring style. Its just that with all the other cars I have been dealing with of late a pair of 50.00 shocks would be a nice change.
Jake
ok. rear shocks for a '77 are napa part # NS 5771. the rear shocks for a '74 wagon are part # NS 5826
I hope that might help.
krazi
Thanks Krazi!
I will check that number out.
Jake
Krazi thanks for the help. I went down and got them and they are Monroe Sens-a-Tracs. They fit no problem except the stud that goes up to the body is too long. After you bolt it to the bracket you have to cut off about 3/8 of an inch of the shock stud. The part number is 5826. I am going to try and cross this to a KYB number as well.
Jake
Krazi gets a one up for his post on shocks.
that's awesome! thanks!

One from me makes it a two up!
Jake
According to KYB the Monroe Sens-A-Trac crosses over to a
GR2 343137 & Gas-Adjust KG5514
Hope this helps anyone else out.
Jake
It will help me, im about to acquire a 77 cruisin wagon, and ill be needing this info. Thank you.
Does anyone make coilovers for the Pinto?
try Jags part#122-ms1375 qa1 mustang-11 coil over conersion kit $379.99 each :tgif:
Speedway Engineering makes coilovers for the pinto or mustang 11.
They bolt right on the lower control arm. They also sell new upper and lower control arms and bushings with all the hardware to bolt them on. I bought them for the race car they are really high quality items.
Rear wagon shocks from '75-'80 use a cross bar and two bolts to mount them to the body, while the '72-'74 wagons use a stud at each end. here are the illustrations from Monroe. The stud specification for all is "S4" and the cross bar for '75-'80 upper is "XP7". Hope this helps clarifies things a bit!
