So when it comes to putting the 2.3 into a 72, how should I tackle the motor mounts? Cut the old ons and move them or just fabricate new ones? The motor, as I stated in an earlier post, is out of a 94 Ranger. Maybe I should cut the mounts out of the Ranger and use those. Suggestiions?...Rob
I have heard that cutting the stock ones off the car and installing ones from a 2.3 pinto, and using the stock 2.3 pinto engine mount brackets and mounts is the best way to go. Knowing what is involved, I too would go that route if I were to do that swap.
Make sure that you mark the location of the tranny so you can use it to line up the engine, as well as set the pinon angle correctly with the 2.3. From what I understand the bolt holes for the frame mounts are not in your car, so you will have to either drill them or weld in the brackets. If the "sub-frames" are the same, some good measurements should let you place the holes correctly.
Don't forget to use the pinto oil pan and pick up tube.

Shows a good shot of the 2.3 motor mount welded into the early frame.
As always, Bill and Tony come through once again! Thanks Guys...Rob
