Title: Running Rough
Post by: PinkPintoRacer on March 02, 2006, 10:13:14 PM
Ok, got the timing figured out, I am at about 25 degrees advanced, but after about 20 minutes of running, the car starts to act like it has retarded again or missing... any suggestions or ideas.  It is a 74 2300, no vacuum line hooked up...5200 Motorcraft Carb, stock cam, I think....

Hello PinkPintoRacer,
you have to set your inital timming after the engine has warmed and you have to use a tacometer so you know what RPM  you are running.

I did that.  It was running about 1400 RPM.  Then I let it run for 20 minutes more, and that is when it started it again.  Could it be as simple as redoing the ground?  There is no ground to the distributor execpt the contact between dizzy and block.

Hello PinkPintoRacer ,
You have to set timing at about 750 rpm.
otherwise the weights will start to move causing centrifugal advance.
You have to let the engine warm has to be off the choke.

Thanks PT, that is what I did, had the tach at about 450-550 (X2), and it was sounding good.  After about 20 more min it started to sound rough again.  That is why I was asking about the ground for the dizzy.  I know it is supposed to be where the dizzy contacts the block, but should I put an external one on it, and if so, where on the dizzy

do a compression check cold, then let it warm up til it runs like poop and do another compression check.  Hows the oil pressure (cold, and running like poop).

DTD, I will do that  tonight.  Oil Pressure stays between 60-100 all the time..
