Anyone know if an 8" out of a 64 Mercury Comet wil bolt right in to a 72 Wagon? Any thoughts?...Rob
Yes.The Comet,Falcon and Mustang 8 inch rears through 1966 are a direct bolt in with the possible exception of the rear U joint. In 1967 they went to a little wider rear. They will still fit,but the spring perches are wider center to center and require a little work.
Thanks Turbo boy! That is exactly what I wanted to hear!...Rob
You are welcome Sir.
Well, not exactly, maybe.
I can't speak for the older pintos, but it will not fit in any of the pintos I have had (77 and newer). It might be ok in the older pintos, but the pintos that have the block and rubber inserts with the oval holes will not direct bolt into any of the older rear perches. At the very least you will need the shock plates from the donor car, or open the holes on the perches to use the blocks.
The 4 lug bolt pattern might be different too (4 on 4.5").
TT is correct, the 67+up stang is wider. I have a v8 68 rear and it took a little work, but not bad. I hope to find an older one someday.

I stand corrected. You are right Bill,It is a direct bolt in for the cars that don't have the rubber cushions.I don't know what year they started with the rubber,But the 71 through 73 didn't have it.Maybe someone can post the year they made the change. :sorry:
Well, First off, Sorry for call you Turbo "boy". :sorry: No disrespect intended. Second; fortunately my wagon is a 72 so I'm assuming from what I have read here, the 64 8" will fit just fine. Thanks to both of you for the help....Rob 8)
The early Pinto did have the rubber.
But the tit that sticks up into the pearch was round. the later Pinto had the oval tit. BUT both had the rubber mount between plates.

WELL SHUX,seems like I struck out altogether on this one.I was going from memory from years ago when I put a 65 Mustang 8 inch in my 71 Pinto.I am certain that I bolted it in without having to modify anything, but I don't remember which shock plates I used.Sorry for the wrong info.I promise to do better next time. :accident:
I'll Just make it fit! Thanks Tony and others!
Hey, that's how I did mine!!!!! It works great.
