Title: 2.0L Long Rod
Post by: critracerx on February 28, 2006, 09:52:22 PM
Does anyone have any advice on installing a 2.3 rod into the 2.0???  I know Wiseco makes a piston, just wandering what everyone experience has been.
Thanks.

Hello critracerx,
I built a 2.0 long rod engine.
BUT I used the crower rods.
By the time you take and the money you spend having the stock rod bushed so the pin slips.
You could just spend the 300.00 for the Crower rods.
If you are on a tight budget you might go that route but you will still have a
STOCK CONNECTING ROD.
Miss a gear and over rev, the engine will be wasted.
That is my opinion...

Thanks Pintony,
I'm building a low(er) rpm motor for a daily driven 73 wagon. Using the Racer Walsh Stage 2 cam (.450 lift 245-252 @.050). The motor should only wind to 6500-7000.   Racer Walsh sells the 2.3 rod with ARP bolts, bushed for floating pins for $200.   They say these rods are good for 7500 rpm.
Any worries about this combination for street use?

I would make sure that R.W. has the rods first.
Probally be OK. I just like the security of the Crower rods.
I have NEVER bought a Pinto with a broken 2.0 rod.
I have bought 2, 2.3 Pinto W/ broken rods.
In automatic cars.

i didn't know you could tear up a 2.0. we were twisting 8500- 8900 and finally gave up and went to the 2.3 engine. the only problem we had was beating the bearings out of them. mid season you had to put in new rod bearings without fail or you would finally have them so loose you'd lose oil pressure and have to pull off.probably the toughest engine ever made in my opinion.

I smoked 2 2.0 bottom ends in my old turbo buggy. Of course I ran 28 lbs boost on Alky ( talk about a ride.........)
