Title: Finally!!! I won the bid on ebay!!
Post by: osiyo59 on February 27, 2006, 11:21:44 PM
I finally got my Pinto wagon! I watched it for 7 agonizing days and in the last 30 seconds threw my bid in and got it for the opening bid! I was really expecting to be beat out by someone else. I have been visiting this site since 1999 and hve really enjoyed looking at all the cool looking Pintos on the site. I now have one of my own ;D !!! I appreciate everyone who replied to my other post regarding the 94 Ranger driveline and of course have learned it won't be as simple as I had planned. But I am dedicated to bringing this old girl back to life. She's a 72 California car. I went and checked her out on Saturday and there is only one little rust spot on the pasenger side A pillar. The 2.0 motor will be up for sale as soon as I get it out. It's a solid runner but I am opting for the 2.3 EFI out of my Ranger. I will keep the site updated as I progress. Thanks.....Rob

Hello Rob,
Keep the 2.0 junk the 2.3.
I saw the wagon on ebay and I thought it might be the one you were talking about.

The 2.0 is a better motor anyway.
Solid lift cam! The the "RACE" engines use.
Almost bulitproof!!!!!

I hear where youre comming from but this is going to be my dailly driver and get 200 - 300 miles a week on it. I just rebuilt the 2.3 last summer and she runs like a brand new motor should. Not to mention I need to be able to drive her from San Jose Califonia to Las vegas a couple times a year to ssee my folks. My Duelly is nice to drive but costs me a mint to drive that far (460cid). Besides, the 2.3 is done and I don't have to do anything to it. So is anyone out there interested in the 2.0? May be interested in doing some "horse trading". ..Rob

The 2.3 is a Great Motor I have personally racked up Hundreds of thousands of miles behind the wheel of 2.3 powered Pintos, Rangers and Turbo Mustangs. Good luck with your project. Stick or auto?

That's what I would like to know.  I searched ebay in the completed section and found no 72 Pintos at all.

before you sell that 2.0, wait until you actualy get that 2.3 in and moving the car under its own power.   Its gonna be harder than you think.

Off the top of my head, you're gonna need: new or custom made motor mounts, new bellhousing/transmission,  some sort of high-pressure fuel pump, you're gonna have to run the ranger's ECM wire harness as well as find a place to mount the ECM, figure Either cut and move the crossbar in the front of the engine bay further to the front of the car or run an electric fan and possibly still not have enough room, custom throttle linkage...etc...

I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting.  To be honest, I'd just leave the 2.0 and work on putting a t5 5speed trans (if you're running a manual already) behind it.   With a 4 speed and a 3:45 rear end My 73 2.0 runabout gets 32 mpg on the interstate.  I'm sure it would do a lot better with a 5 speed.

Hi Rob: Congrats on your Pinto wagon. I have a 71 V8 and it is a blast to drive. I live in Morgan Hill. If you want to talk Pintos sometime, let me know. Joe

I agree with Harry but I also like a challenge.  One way around the wiring problem would be to go standalone.  A megasquirt system could easily handle that engine using almost all the factory sensors.  If you are decent with electronics its a pretty easy DIY deal and the online support is great.

OH!  It was under parts cars.  No wonder I did not see it.  Looks like a good project.  Hey Pintony how come you never answered (or I did not get it back) the email asking about the late model NOS clutch cable you have?

The 2.3 is every bit as good as the 2.0. I made a set of drilled and tapped plugs for the lifter bores and drilled and pinned them on my 2.3 head, then used the 2.0 adjusters, clips and springs.RESULT:I now have a cheap solid roller motor with a bullet proof botom end that runs like gangbusters. 2.3 Turbo Pintos are giant killers.Curtis

WOW! What a response from everyone! One thing is clear, we all have different points of view of what would be best. That's what makes this so much fun. I have so many resources to draw from. As far as the Fabrication work on the car to put the 2.3 in: I have been building hotrods, minitrucks and other fab projects for about 26 years now. I have a few medioker skills. I can weld, have wired a few cars from scratch and my good friend owns Magnumforce Race Car Fabrication if I ned parts or have fab questions (also my former employer). Plus I have all of you guys now! Thanks for all the replies. It gives that warm and fuzzy feeling all over! For anyone who would like to checkout Magnumforce visit on the web at www.magnumforce.com. Thanks again! if anyone would like to get a hold of me I can be found at robertkemberling@yahoo.com.au DON'T FORGET THE ".au" AT THE END OF THE EMAIL ADDRESS. Hey Joe, Drop me a line and we can talk pinto! C-ya!...Rob

I like the twin antennas on the passengers side. That is a cool touch. Bet ya don't see that on another. Great Idea though.

OK So I would like to get some more thoughts on the twin antennas. I was thinking on losing them. For me they just take away from the lines on the car (not to mention the potential rust problem)....Rob

I have always been a fan of if it don't make sense you don't need it.  Dual antennas don't make the recpetion any better than one good antenna.

If the anteanas have drain holes and tubes they do not rust.
I think they are COOL!
something you just do not see on a Pinto.

When I looked at the car in person I noticed that there was some water sitting in them. I will be picking the car up on Saturday, (PLEASE GOD! NO RAIN!) and will inpect it better once she is home. I have mixed feelings about the antennas. I personally like a very clean look and was thinking of a hidden antenna. Come to think of it, I don't even listen to the radio :-\ I just listen to CDs. I dunno, I'll see how it goes...Rob
