Hello guys.I am new to the forum here and have acquired what is supposed to be a late eighties 302 H/O motor out of a Mustang.I am very interested in putting this in a Pinto. At this point I will not get to picky with the year of pinto.I want the application that would be the easiest or maybe even get lucky enough to locate one that is already set up.i would like to know if a 351 and a 302 would be the same set up.I also would like to know the difference or how to identify this motor to establish that it is indeed an H/O motor and how do you tell what kind of transmission it is?The motor is sitting in a 1985 Thunderbird at the moment.Any help would be appreciated. Also,I understand that the 86 and up is a roller motor. What is a sure way to tell?Don't roller motors turn the opposite way on a Ford motor?
well i cant answer any of your questions but i can help you a little bit. if you havent already.... put an add on our Pintos wanted section. we do have people on here that will be able to help you im sure.. welcome to the website..
A 351 has a wider measurement across the intake manifold. Not sure how much wider, but it seems like 1.5 to 2 inches, someone correct me if I am off here??
Depends on which 351. A 351 Windsor is almost the same as a 302. Not much difference dimensionally. Usually if a 302 will fit so will a Windsor. The 351 Cleveland is much wider. If a 302 and a 351W are tight than a 351C is probably not going to go.

Pretty obvious that a cleavland is a different breed, I just know, that a 351W IS in fact wider than a 302. Brackets, intake, and other misc. things are different. The block bolts in the same but that's about it. I changed a full sized Bronco over from one to another and ran into those problems.
I know the 351W is wider but it is so close to a 302 that generally is a 302 will fit in a engine compartment then the 351W will also.
