There is a valve connected to a 3/8 vacuum line at the forward base of the carb.
What function does this valve serve?
I will get a Chilton and other manuals soon....I promise.
Does it go to the PCV valve?? It looks like a thrmostatically cotrolled valve. Is you car a Califormia Emissions equipped one?? Should say something on that sticker on your valve cover, if it is the original one. Or maybe a sticker on the underside of the hood. I'll bet it is. That would explain some of the stuff not normally seen on most Pintos.
Here you go...
I thought the same thing, but it appears be a stand alone unit, not hooked to anything else.
More investigation needed, then more questions...
Pintony, just got your post as I was typing. (Cool feature, thanks web maestros).
It shows a 2.0, but it looks the same, though routed a little differently.
What it do? How is it adjusted?
Thanks,
Mike
I remember having this hot idle compensator on my 73.
I do not think there is any adjustment.
I do know if you get a backfire or are checking hoses while the engine is running. this valve can open and will need to be re-set manually because it will cause a big vacume leak.
I can swing the valve back and forth thru its' full rotary arc with no change in how the engine runs...
The valve is simply a reed valve that vents extra volume .
If you engine is running and you squeez the valve it will pop open and the engine will die.
re-setting the valve.
