Title: Possible '86 Mustang donor vehicle, what is readily usable?
Post by: powderblue76 on February 13, 2006, 10:28:31 PM
There may be an '86 Mustang available for parts close by me.
V6 with an auto tranny.
What can Pintos readily use from this car?
Are the trannies better than the C3's?
thanks,
Mike

Do you mean "bolt in" parts? If so, not much, the wheels, maybe the driveshaft depending on what you engine/tranny swap you have in the car (shorter shaft), thats about it.

What v6, the 3.8? (if so check the heads BEFORE you do anything) (well, check the heads on ANY ford V6!!!)

What tranny? Most likely it is an a4ld (basicly a c3 with a fourth gear), but it might be an aod (basicly a c4 with a fouth gear).

Either way it will not be a 2.3 bolt patern. If you wanted, you could transplant the engine/tranny, but keep in mind the tunnel might not be big enough, the oilpan might not clear the crossmember, stuff like that, and more. Lots of work for a not too durable set-up. It might be ok in the lightweight pinto though.

Hey Mike,
You are determined to screw-up your NICE blue Pinto aren't you????
Leave it alone.
If you want to mess around.
Sell your car and buy one that is not so original.
OR just drive and enjoy.
I'm just gonna have to stop reading your posts...

Pintony,
Relax my friend, the parts aren't for my car, just checking to see if anybody else here could use the stuff.
As I said earlier, i will probably just leave the car the way it is, except for a little exhaust work to uncork the little thing.
Granted, if this was a gutted beater Pinto, plans would be in the works for a high stepping 302/351W, etc....
This car is too clean to jack with.
I hope I have layed a couple fears to rest.  ;D
