how can you tell what type of trannsmisson you have?? i have a 1979 2.3 automatic i cant tell what it is c3?

Hello lostandfound,
If your Pinto still has the VIN sticker on the drivers door JAM? Look where it says trans.
If it says V you have a C3 if it says W it a C4
That,.. saying someone has not swaped it out somewhere along the line.

13 bolts on the pan = c3, 11 = c4.

I don't think they had the c-4 in 79.
