Title: brake light switch...
Post by: stack71 on February 12, 2006, 03:02:06 PM
I have a 1971 Runabout and I noticed the brake lights will go on, but only when the brake pedal is pressed REALLY HARD.  The lights will not light up sitting at a stop light and or under normal braking conditions.  There appears to be a brake light switch under the pedal, but I didn't see any type of adjustment screw/nut.  The car has been in the family since new and no brake modifications have been done.   Any ideas?   thx...

Hello Stack71,
Just replace the switch.
30 years of dust and corosion is just too much for the switch.

Tony, Is that a part that can be got at your local CSK or the likes? or, is it a speciality part. Also, do other Ford cars share the same part?
Thanks

Hey Brad,

  :what: am I Kreskin???

stack71 asked about what to do, not where to buy.
Besides I only had a small amout of time while the Bud Shootout was at comercial.
Why didn't you just give stack71 the info instead of asking me? :cheesy_p:

Cuz, I have no Idea where to buy these parts and I am trying to tape the Last day of the Winternationals but there is Stupid womens basketball game on and for some reason ESPN2 thinks that Its more important to let a Womens basketball game go long than start a LIVE broadcast of a sport that brings in more revenue in one race than the whole season of Womens basketball.  :hypno: BTW I didn't even look at what these guys are called, I just like the faces they make...... ;D BTW, whats a Kreskin? BTW, ya know im just messing with you....... :exclamation:

To follow up regarding the brake light switch...  I went to my local Ford dealer and they didn't have the part.  They referred me to the local autoparts store.  I went to my local Kragen and they had one in stock.  NIEHOFF # SL30831/FF142H  I spent 15 minutes installing it and it works fine now.  Just a little tap and the brake lights go on!  Didn't want to drive around in this Pinto with a faulty taillight switch and risk getting rear-ended... doh!   :look:

Hello Stack71,
I guess I should have said at any parts store.
Not Ford.
Gald you have your items fixed for now.
Come back if you have and more.
I'm sure someone here can help.
