Please bear with me,I bought a 71 Pinto Hatchback in 1972 because of the gas crunch. At that time I parked my 69 Boss429 Mustang.I finally put the Mustang back on the road last year//www.1969boss429.com .now its time to bring back the Pinto. It has 24,000 original miles,a 6point roll cage, fuel cell, and a vintage Herbert and Meeks V8 conversion kit. I need a set of headers, will Mustang II headers work ? I am installing a very warm 289 with an automatic trans and a 3:55 rear.
Sorry...Gas crunch in 1972 :wow: ?
;D ;D ;D in the `72 gas crunch we had Ayatollah Khomeini who wreaked havoc with oil supplies from the mid-east....I`d say more but my memory is fading and I was much too young then to remember... :text_yb_rofl:
gt40tt................awesome Boss......

Yes :wow:
:idea:More like 1973-1974.
Trouble is there was no shortage in oil.
Only shortage refining plants to supply needs.
OH!! And GREEDY oil companys that were freaked out by the GOVT saying they could not use lead anymore.

P.S. If you think you are going to get good milage from a warm 289 your sadly mistaken.
Go buy a honda.
WHO SAID THAT? :lost:
 :left: :left: :left: :left:
NOT ME!!!!
:wow:
Honda??? Honda??? :wow:
For real gas mileage out of a non hybrid car. You should buy a HYUNDAI. I was getting between 37 and 41 mpg out of an Accent w/ 5 spd. Up to about 70,000 miles then it started to go down a little, but that was after being submerged under 5 feet of water.
A honda, I'll remember that. :showback:
OH!!!
Milage wars.
VW golf diesel 50+ mpg
Top That!!!!!
My freightliner diesel can go 1200+ miles on one tank of fuel.
I thought we were talking about GAS mileage though.
:wow:What are you people smoking?? I asked about a set of headers for my 289 Pinto project. I don't care what gas milage it gets, but at 2400 lbs if I keep my foot out of it 20 mpg is a no brainer.Anyway, does anyone know if Mustang II headers will fit a V8 Pinto conversion. Thanks in advance for any help ! P.S. If I had found this site sooner I might have been able to finish the Pinto in time for Carlisle.I will be bringing The BOSS.www.1969boss429.com (http://www.1969boss429.com)
Cant wait to see the boss in carlisle. As for the headers there has been much discussion on here already on that topic. If you run a search on headers, or check thru the faq sections, you should be able to find the info you are looking for. Sorry to hijack your thread with the stupid mpg stuff, but me and pintony like to torment each other once in awhile. Welcome to the site , and please bring a sense of humor with you. as for the smoke, wouldn't you like to know :lost:

Hey GT40tt,
Yes :sorry: About that but your post just struck me funny about the gas crisis and all.
In 1973 A friend of mine owned a Ford dealer and would talk about guys with Big blocks tring to trade-in for a Pinto.
The 72 Pinto is somewhat different than the MII but I would say YES! You should not have too much trouble.
Depending on where your motor mounts are located.
