How many here have a carbed blowthru 4 banger in their pinto?
I am thinking about doing this with mine and want 1st hand info.
Jim
i know there are a few with draw thru.... not aware of any blow thru's on the site.

Damn I love being a pioneer... :D
Jim
NOPE!!!!! Mine is a draw through system too.
The blow throughs only work at very low boost PSI.
Otherwise the boost pressure stops the fuel from getting in the carb.
Lets see...
15 pounds boost and 6 pounds of fuel psi.
Nothing like the smell of melted pistons in the morning!!!!!!!!!
You'd need something to increase fuel pressure as boost pressure rises......is there anything out there that does that?

The HIGH HP turbo motors do raise the fuel psi by using a FMU this diaphram pinches off the return line and effectivly raises the fuel pressure.
Since the Pinto is not equiped wiith a fuel return line, one would have to be added.
A simple diagram of a T.C. or XR would help to provide some clues as to how this could be done.
the guys that have made the 2.3T swap may know already???
From Pintony
What you use is a boost referanced fuel pressure regulator.
You also mod the carb to accept internal pressure.
The regulator has a 1:1 rising rate ratio.
Lets say 6-7 psi of pressure off boost, and 26-27 psi of fuel pressure @ 20 psi of boost.
I have seen plenty of carbed blowthru engines... I just have not seen any 2.3s ;)
I know all the principles apply, just was looking for input on carbs.
390 cfm 4 bbl... 350 cfm 2 bbl... or some other carb that was used.
I am planning on sumping the fuel tank and running thicker fuel line to the engine... so it would be no problem to use the stock line as a return from the regulator.
The EFI 2.3T is a popular swap at the moment... I am just looking to do a little something different :D As I have already walked the EFI 2.3T path.

Jim, I have done a bunch of research on this. I will be posting it soon. I am CONVENCED you can do a great blowthrough with little to no issues.

Thanks Brad... I am sure also... it just makes it a lil easier if someone has trod the path before.
Altho blazing your own trail is pretty damn rewarding :D

I wanted to be the first,oh well.I talked to some people at customcarbs.com they said a modded 350/500 holley is about $500-$600.Custom seems to do alot of stuff for magazine car builds, they said that a boost ref.reg only is good for up to 10 psi with carb mods its good for 20 psi.I got another pinto after waiting 20 years yesterday, sounds like my plan is thr same jim.

Steve... read this and mod it yourself... save a LOT of pocketchange. ;)

This is the carb mod guide used by LOTS of people on www.turbomustangs.com .
I will end up using a holley 2 bbl it looks like... was just looking for other options also.
Congrats on the purchase... and you still have time to beat me to the punch. :D

One very good point about the blow through system is that you can use the CBV or BOV to help the turbo live!!!

I have read the modifications for the blow through carb.
What do you do to get the engine started now that you have eliminated the choke??????
