I plan to add accessory gauges to my Runabout. I have seen these gauges mounted in the dash, next to the heater control in other pintos.
My question is, do I have to use 1-1/2" gauges, or will 2" gauges fit?
I think I'd heard that some Pintos had gauges like that mounted in that position as a factory option. Has anyone added these gauges like that, and how hard was it? (Things like "how to cut the dash" and "how hard to run the wires").
Thanks for any help you can provide.
My orange pinto has the guages, and I THINK the harness is different (I know ford does not do that too often). If you get a stock set of them, (like on ebay where we got our spare) try to get the connectors and a pigtail of wires so you can mount them. They go where the stock non-a/c controls go, and the heater controls then move down to the console (you will need that console too). Just get the sending units for the guages after that. The ford ones look very nice and clean when installed. The small ones have fuel, temp and charge rate.

I looked on eBay and bought the factory accessory gauges that fit in place of the heater controls. I removed the factory gauges from the mounting bezel and installed aftermarket gauges in their place. The mini aftermarket gauges fit right into the holes. This allowed me to hook up the gauges without messing with the factory wire harness.
Aftermarket gauges are more accurate and there are 3 holes to mount oil pressure, coolant temp, and charging. The factory gauges contain a gas gauge and do not have oil pressure.
It worked great and looks factory. As already mentioned, you will need to move the heater controls to under the dash using a console made for the A/C car or factory accessory gauge car.
