Hey,
I am seriously shopping for a 4bb for my 2.8 and have read that the appropriate carb would be the holley 390. I have also read a few comments that this carb would be too much for my v6 motor. I have the basics ( headers, cam). Anyone know the real story with this set up?
I dont know the "real story" as it applys to your combo but, I used a 390 carb on a 1979 Turbo RS Capri with a 2.3 engine and It worked GREAT !!!.
Hello squidd78v6,
A 390-4v carb with some tuning would be the perfect choice for the 2.8 V6 Ford Engine.

Hey squidd78v6,
If you want some good info on hopping up the V6, try to get a copy of "How to Build and Modify Ford 60 Degree V-6 Engines" by Sven Pruett. It's out of print, but copies come up on eBay on occasion. Lots of good info! There is quite a bit of info on calibrating the Holley 8007 390cfm 4-barrel for use on the 2.8.
My research has lead me to support the theory of the 390 being the best for a 2.8 or 2.9 v-6. If you have a better cam and a set of headers the 390 comes out on paper as being the best choice. There is a book called "the machinist handbook" or "the machinery handbook". This book contains every mathematical formula and how to calculate them for anything related to mechanics (generic term for everything mechanical) how to calculate volumes and flow rates and how much air can flow thru a certain size valve, etc, etc, etc. The problem is the book is not in laymens terms. But you can figure out just about anything once you learn how to read and use the book. It is expensive, but there is all kinds of useful info in it. it is about 700 pages thick. I currrently do not have a copy, When i washed my hands of being a machinist, everything went bye-bye. (stupid me).
im putting a 390 4bbl on a 2.0 (40 over).told that it will be perfect.
