I'll soon be overhauling a 9" rear for use in my V8 pinto swap. It is from a 58/59 station wagon so it is the correct overall width and has a WAR pumpkin with 3.10 gears. This is a the gear I want for my intended application, BTW. Since it is a single track (open), I was wondering about converting it to a limited slip (posi) rear. For a daily street driven V8 car would a single track work as effectively as a limited slip ???? The stock Pinto rear is non-posi and my Crown Vic has an open rear and works just fine. Does anyone have experience with either an open or a posi rear for driving on the street with a Pinto V8? I want to ensure I get enough power to the pavement but also dont want to worry about sliding into someone at a stoplight every time it rains. Thanks!
go posi for sure, that much power with a one wheel peel will just spin like hell! I have a posi (mini spool) and i can spin both tires with great ease at anything under about 50mph.
78Pinto, I think I read somewhere, or maybe dreamed it, that the 8.8 posi stuff will interchange with the 9" stuff. Is there any validity to this? Also, what does it take to make a single track into a posi for street driving? Thanks!
I picked up a posi unit from Ebay and will be installing it in lieu of the single track.
