I was just wondering if the sport mirroirs of a 76 mustang will work on a 80 pinto?
The driver's side mirror is identical. The passenger side mirror is identical except for one small variance. Where the cable mounts to the underside dashboard to the right of the steering column, the Pinto unit has an adjuster end that the cables attach at 90*. On the Mustang II mirrors, the cables come straight out as the end mounts right into the face of the dashboard so does not need the clearance the 90* gives. I have heard many people using the Mustang II style on the Pinto. You just have to be careful how you route the cables.
From my experience, the mirrors are identical from 74 and up. The difference is in the knob bezels becuase of where the knobs are mounted. The drivers side Pinto mounts on the metal part of the door where the Mustang II mounts on the door panel. The correct bezel for the Pinto is the larger of the two. As 79 Panel pointed out, the pass side on the pinto mounds under the dash. It has a unique plate that mounts under the dash along with the chrome bezel. The 73 and earlier Pinto's do not have remote pass side sport mirrors.
I had a 69 Mach 1 with sport mirrors and I can tell you that the bullet shaped top parts are pretty similar but the base that mounts to the door itself are different, if you notice most of those are 2 piece units with the base able to be separated from the unit.
