what is the stock gearing in a pinto? the rear edn grear i am talking about.
trying to see if there is a way to get cheaper gears for our race cars then to buy brand new one from a performance place.
i know the stangs run like a 3.08
Are you running a 6 3/4 or an 8? My 6 3/4 came with 2.73s, but they went down to at least 3.3 or so I think. '79 was either a 2.73 or 3.08 according to my shop manual. Maybe it went lower in other years?
7.5 rear
my books show the 6 3/4 being used in the pinto/bobcat, fairmont/zephyr and mustang/capri.
It shows the 7.5 in the fairmont/zephyr and mustang/capri.
If you are running the 7.5, ratios are 2.26, 2.47, 2.73, 3.08 in the '79 book.
By the way axle codes for the 7.5 are WGX and WGZ. The 6 3/4 are WGF and WGG.
I run a 4.11 in my derby pinto
I tend to like the 4.62's in my derby pintos.
The rear gear in my racer is a 3:18 we run a High banked dirt track At north vernon Indiana. I have a 2.20 second gear in the trans. Im turnin somewhere near 9000 rpms before the corner. The high revs help me keep up with the other racers who have more money to put in their stroker motors.
I HAVE A 73 WITH THE 6.75 REAR THAT HAS 3.40 GEARS. IT USED TO HAVE 3.55 GEARS BUT WAS TOO TALL OF A GEAR TO RUN WITH 13 INCH TIRES AND EXPECT TO STAY AWAY FROM THE GAS PUMP.
hi i run a 340 rear gear at santa maria speedway and at bakersfield with a 215 tranny
