Title: SHO motor
Post by: pintoman on November 07, 2005, 06:46:13 PM
I'm thinking[there i go again] about dropping a  SHO motor in the new wagon.Any comments.Bad or good any at all.I've been told that a tranny out of a Ranger pickup will bolt up to it.

Most SHO engine parts are obsolete.

those are awesome engines! I seen one at the local track with a 62mm turbo and my god did it go like hell! It was in a AC Cobra replica. I say go for it dare to be different!

I may get Flamed for this, but isn't the SHO V6 based in the "cologne" block? (the very same 2.8V6 in the later Wagons)I know it was built by Yamaha, but I also know it's a 3.0L engine. I guess I'm wondering if it MAY just be a bolt in. (mechanically)

The 3.0 and 3.2 v6 sho engines are basicaly the same as any other tranverse mounted Taurus or Windstar engine except they are built stronger to handle the extra breathing and subsequint extra power furnished by the Yamaha designed topend.Being it is a front drive engine,it will require custom motormounts. The only rearwheel drive transmission that will bolt to this engine is an A4LD or a 5speed manual from a 3.0L Ranger or Aerostar..2WD ofcource. Use a converter for a Turbo Coupe T-Bird with an A4LD as this will be loose enough to let the SHO engine rev....like it was built to do. And one more thing......HANG ON!

sho's have an entirely different subframe under them. I had a buddy crash one & it cost him dearly for a used frt frame once he found one.
