Title: new member: Help with thought of engine swap.
Post by: whitepony on November 06, 2005, 12:22:00 AM
Hey guys this is white pony. I own a 77 sedan. My engine has original 38k miles. I'm a college student and am planning on keeping my pinto. It's a little slow and I can't get to the highway(55mph). My post is to ask some expert advice about and engine swap. I need to know what type of engine, not a gas guzzler, but something that'l last me throughout school a few years. What am I saying? I'd like to keep my car as long as possible.

The engine is a 2.0. I don't know of the space and technical terms so if you guys could help me out I'd love it. Thanks y'all

-p.s. willing to spend maybe 2000 ponies for an engine-

Hi, Welcome.

If you have a 4 popper, it should be a 2.3 that year, but it could be a 2.0 if it was swapped. As far as your "new" engine, almost anything goes; it depends on what you want. If you swap the engine, you might be swapping the tranny too. There are ways of perking up the stock engine, or you can 2.3 turbo, v6, or v8 the car. Look in the FAQ section for different swap info. You can do alot for well under 2k.

Good luck,
Bill

Hey,

I dont know about up there in Oregon, but down here in Texas we have this place that Auctions off cars for super cheap every second Sat. What I would do is try to find one of there and go pick you up a ford with a good V6 in it, and just transplant the drivedrain over to your pinro. Im in college too I know how it is! Thats what I plan on doing when my 4 banger bangs out.
