Post by: skrach on October 30, 2005, 02:10:59 PM
fender stamp...  i found this when i took off my original right fender. its hard to see but it says "SomethingSteel Company"

i also found numbers 298 written on my back seat, and 291 on my front seat.  what do those represent. i thought it meant the production # of the car.

the steel stamp was either at the beginning of the roll of steel or at the end and your part was the last useable stamping from that roll. The numbers are in plant rotation numbers, they will start at 0001 and go to 9999 and start over again, they use these to look for cars on the line that may need repairs and they are easier than using vin numbers as ther are not in sequence. The seats would be made on a seperate line, the rotation number is wrinten on to ensure they go into the right car (green car green seats and not green car brown seats ect) The numbers should match.... but in your case they don't, one seat may have been damaged and replaced with a different one.
