I was wondering how much trouble it was to install a five speed instead of an automatic behind a 302 if the car was orig. a standard trans, will it fit, will the stock clutch cable work and will the shifter work out in right spot using a mustang trans? This is my first v8 swap in anything,I have allways loved my pintos and you guys are the experts! I hope we can make it happen 8)
It would all depend on what tranny and bell you use. If you have all the parts you plan to use, get the measurements for locations, and see what type of clutch relese you have.

thanks for the info, I don't have a trans yet but was wondering what ones will work I have located one from a early 90's mustang but holding off till I find out if it will work for sure (no refund ,no return). But this has been done.... right? :-\
Hello David,
I hate to say this BUT,
A C4 auto would be better in a light weight car like the Pinto and FASTER too!!!!

I agree with Tony, The C-4 has a 2.46 low and 1.46 2nd. My 289 with a C-4 and 4:11 rear could light up the tires as quick as you can say ( shiney). I can can only wonder what it would have done with a 3:80 ish low gear and even a 3:40 rear end gear. ( can you say " smokem" )
