just have to tell you what happened when I was driving my pinto last week. It's just one of those little things in life that left me smiling all day long and still brings a smile to my face a week later. I was driving through a construction zone (in Roseville, MN...St. Paul), inching along, ever so slowly, waiting for my turn at the 4-way stop. As I finally approached the intersection, I just happened to look over at the construction workers working on the roadway. As I looked, one of the men saw my blue pinto inching forward. The look on his face was priceless: it was an immediate explosion of pleasure, and a huge two-thumbs-up in appreciation for seeing this fine specimen of a car! I have no doubt that my 78 hatchback made his day, as it did mine. It may sound corny, but keeping my pinto in tip-top condition is not just for my pleasure...I have experienced many, many times, how much other people enjoying seeing these cars! When I first got this car, a stranger stopped to admire it, and with arms folded, was staring at it, and then asked, "What are you going to do with it?" Without even thinking, I said, "I'm going to enjoy it!" Thanks for letting me share this sweet incident with you. I will never forget it. This is what owning a Pinto is all about, huh?
That is so cooool. It warms you up inside. I know this feeling well. A guy at a red light asked if mine was for sale. I told him for a million bucks now but for two million when I get it painted. He said it is gonna look good. I said thanks as I drove away barking secound gear.
i think we all get these bright moments.....and I love it. I get the most response when driving my '74 wagon. I had a guy pulling out cash at a gas station. he knew i came in that station regularly and was wating on me with $2000. If it had been my '76 hatch I would have signed it over then and there with the gas pump still going....but my wagon? I told him it would take better than $10,000 in cash and some serious thinking to do that.
Ok, here's another tiny moment in my day that just warmed my soul. (I'm a writer, so everytime a neat Pinto moment happens to me, I'm absolutely gonna write it down here on fordpinto.com, so bear with me)
A little background for you: We live next to a family with teenage boys, and they are always tinkering, rebuilding, repairing, repainting, etc., their cars. Well, Daniel, the 18-year old, has decided to sell one of his cars to his good friend, a 17-year old guy, named Coleman. Coleman has seen my pretty blue pinto out in the driveway on occasion. As far as I know, he has never actually come over and examined it; he has never expressed any interest in my pretty hatchback, but perhaps he has, when I have not been at home. Anyway, today, I walk over to talk to Daniel and Coleman, who are both working on the car that Coleman is going to buy from Daniel. They are spray painting it and getting rust off. An exhaust pipe lies on the ground as well. As I circle the car and watch them work, I see the exhaust pipe and mention that I recently had my Pinto in to have a pipe replaced as well. Then, all of a sudden, Coleman, who is two feet away from me, stops what he's doing, locks his eyes with mine, and it is like time stands still....he declares, "I love that Pinto!" Where did that statement of undying love come from?! I thought. I inquired what it is about Pintos he likes, and he said, "I don't know anything about Pintos, but I love that Pinto!" There was such a yearning in his voice, I almost gave him my car! (Well, not exactly, but I was tempted for half a second!) Thanks for reading my story for today!
